The New Canaan Police Department received a report of a stolen BMW from a North Wilton Road resident on Tuesday, Jan. 18 after it had been taken from his home.

Police said that the BMW was located following a brief search and the vehicle was recovered in New Haven. Investigators noted that while the BMW was being stolen and returned to New Canaan, another vehicle was also stolen in Wilton.

The investigation into the stolen BMW by the New Canaan, Wilton, and New Haven police departments led them to identify New Haven resident Keisean Dwayne Chavis as their main suspect and a warrant was issued for his arrest.

On Wednesday, Feb. 23, police from New Canaan traveled to New Haven to take custody of Chavis, who was being detained by his probation officer on the arrest warrant.

Chavis was transported to New Canaan Police Headquarters, where he was charged with first-degree larceny. He’s being held in lieu of a $35,000 bond and is scheduled to make a court appearance on Thursday, Feb. 24.
